Visa for cash charges against Erbil German Consulate General

Visa for cash charges has been leveled against the Erbil German Consulate General in the German media. It has been alleged that refugees from Syria in Iraq’s Kurdistan region have traveled to Germany. They have then claimed asylum with assistance from smugglers. It is by exploiting the loopholes in the Visa control system at Erbil German Consulate General.

An investigation in this regard has been published by Der Spiegel the current affairs magazine in Germany. It has claimed some staff members who process visa applications have colluded with people smugglers. This is at the Kurdistan Region capital German consulate, as quoted by the RUDAW NET.

Meanwhile, the Erbil German Consulate General has responded to the allegations. It has said that it has a policy of zero tolerance for corruption and crime at diplomatic missions. An investigation is going on in the issue, added the Consulate General.

Del Spiegel has interacted with the Refugees. They have said that they paid smugglers roughly 12,000$ for assistance in securing a Visa. This permitted them to arrive at Germany and claiming asylum after that.

The magazine said that the Consulate has a shortage of staff. This has permitted passage for fake applications and has been unnoticed.
