козырь While acknowledging the scarcity of skilled workers in the US, Donald Trump's Labor department nominee for Labor Secretary has said that it is not intended by the H1-B visas to replace the American workers. Speaking to the Senators during his confirmation hearing Alexander Acosta the nominated Labor Secretary said that while some jobs in the US have been outsourced overseas, some allocated to the overseas immigrants, some Americans had even been asked to train their overseas immigrants. He further elaborated on the job market scenario in the US by saying that some Americans observe that there are jobs available for them but they do not possess the skills demanded by these jobs. Replying to queries from the US Senators, Acosta said that it was crucial to analyze the claims that overseas immigrants were replacing US workers. He said that specifically where in US nationals were being asked to train their overseas replacements, which is not the objective of the H1-B visas, quotes Times of India. There was a lot of discussion going on of late focused on the partnership between the government and private enterprises. Infrastructure program that is a crucial point for these discussions will certainly create jobs for the US workers, added Acosta. Alexander Acosta said that the issue of infrastructure was not just regarding creating jobs, but about adding more value to the economy of the nation as individuals spend money as they get jobs. The money that is spent creates a multiplier effect for the entire economy which is valuable incredibly, said Acosta. He also expressed worry regarding the skills gap in the US. Acosta gave instances of the visit to the various states in the US along with the members of the Labor department committee wherein it was noticed that though there was the availability of jobs the required skills for the jobs were often scarce. Many students who graduate were unable to secure jobs as a result. Efforts must be made to reduce the skill gap in the US labor markets and skills required by the job markets must be aligned with the training for jobs. The advancement in technology must especially be considered in this regard, added Acosta.
